Saturday Smoothie Roundup 29-08-15

Any one who knows me knows I love smoothies! And I love variety; I rarely drink the same thing twice in one week, which is why my freezer is always stocked with a variety of frozen fruits. Here is a roundup of the smoothies I drank this week. 

This week I discovered buckwheat porridge. It’s a great spin on overnight oats/smoothies. To sprout the buckwheat, let buckwheat soak in water for 30 minutes. Drain and let sit overnight, then add to your smoothie.

Monday. Cherry beet smoothie

  • 250ml cashew milk or cream
  • ¼ cup roasted beet
  • Juice of half a lime
  • 1 tsp each carob and maca powder
  • ½ cup frozen cherries
  • ½ frozen banana

Tuesday. Gingered plum smoothie

  • 300ml water
  • 2 tbsp each hemp & chia
  • 1 tbsp almond butter
  • 1 tbsp grated ginger
  • 1 ½ cups frozen plum
  • ¼ cup roasted beet purée

Wednesday. Strawberry rhubarb buckwheat porridge

  • 1 cup sprouted buckwheat 
  • 1 cup strawberries
  • 1 cup rhubarb 
  • 1 date
  • 2 cups liquid (1 c. Milk 1 c. Water)
  • Pinch salt

I poured this over top of red velvet granola, then topped it with apple and plum sauce.

Friday. Spicy Plum Smoothie

500ml coconut milk
8 small plums
1 frozen banana
1 cup spinach

4 dates 
1 cup sprouted buckwheat
½ teaspoon vanilla
1 tbsp fresh ginger (or 1 tsp ground)
¼ tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
